We conducted a related survey with the Turkish States

12.06.2024

The growing influence of the Organisation of Turkic States indicates its potential as the nucleus of a new regional order, as well as the fact that the prosperity and security of Turkic states exhibit interdependent and overlapping characteristics. Considering that the new geopolitical architecture emerging in the region is geared towards the rise of the Turkic world, the Social Research Center conducted a public opinion survey to ascertain the views of Azerbaijani society on the framework of cooperation among Turkic states.

The survey results revealed that 6.0% of respondents desired cooperation among Turkic states to be established solely within the context of historical and cultural ties, 6.2% favoured cooperation within historical, cultural, and economic domains, while 84.2% supported military-political cooperation alongside economic and cultural relations. Additionally, 3.6% of respondents found it difficult to answer.

The findings of the public opinion survey demonstrate that Azerbaijani society has evolved its vision of cooperation among the countries of the Turkic world, moving from the protection of Turkic cultural heritage to ensuring economic integration based on energy and transport projects, organising joint political-diplomatic activities, and forming a unified military-security institution for regional security.

The survey was conducted from March 15 to 18, 2024, using Computer-Assisted Telephone Interviews (CATI) among 390 respondents aged 18 and older. The sampling was determined proportionally to the population distribution of the country, using a probability method while maintaining gender representativeness. The sample included 12 economic regions. To ensure randomness, telephone numbers of administrative districts and cities of the specified economic regions were systematically selected from the corresponding database using a special program, and calls were made.

Surveys were conducted on the basis of completely anonymous and voluntary participation. The respondents were informed that the results would only be utilised in an aggregated form. Based on the number of respondents included in the survey, the margin of error for the results is 5% within a 95% confidence interval.
